He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
