Messengers! Partake of the things that are clean, and act righteously. I know well all that you do. 51 And verily this religion of yours is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. 53 So leave them in their bewilderment for a while. 54 Do they think that by what We aid them with of wealth and children, 55 We hasten in good works for them? No, they are not aware. 56 Verily those who for fear of their Lord are in awe. 57 And those who believe in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, 58 who associate none with their Lord in His Divinity, 59 who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord; 60 to God, these are the ones who really compete with each other in virtuous deeds and are the foremost ones in the task. 61 And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged. 62 Yet their hearts are oblivious of this; and besides, they are busy with other things, 63 Till, when We seize with the chastisement the ones of them that live at ease, behold, they groan. 64 Invoke not loudly this day! Certainly, you shall not be helped by Us. 65 My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels 66 [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night." 67 Have they, then, never tried to understand this word [of God]? Or has there [now] come to them something that never came to their forefathers of old? 68 Or do they not recognize their Messenger, and so deny him? 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 And should the truth follow their low desires, surely the heavens and the earth and all those who are therein would have perished. Nay! We have brought to them their reminder, but from their reminder they turn aside. 71 Or are you asking them for any reward? But the reward of your Lord is the best, for He is the Best of Providers, 72 and, most surely, you are calling them to a straight path. 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are from the path deviating. 74 ۞ Though We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy. 75 And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus] 76 until We open before them a gate of harsh punishment and then they will be dumbfounded. 77
