The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
