He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
