The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 No indeed, the Book of the immoral is in Sijjeen. 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
