Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
