The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 None belies it except every guilty sinner. 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 whose seal is musk so let all aspirants aspire after that 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
