The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
