The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
