Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
