The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
