The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
