Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
