The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
