The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
