Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
