And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
