The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
