The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
