He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
