The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
