The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
