The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, 1 unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 They will abide therein for ever. 3 And that it may warn those who say: God hath taken a son. 4 They do not have any knowledge of it – nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. 5 Yet perchance, if they believe not in this tiding, thou wilt consume thyself, following after them, of grief. 6 Surely We have made all that is on the earth an embellishment for it in order to test people as to who of them is better in conduct. 7 Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" 10 Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): 11 Thereafter We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best at reckoning the time that they had tarried. 12
