[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
