The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 The roof raised high, 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
