He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
