The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
