The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
