The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
