And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 Pharaoh led his people astray instead of leading them aright. 79 Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and promised to settle you on the right side of the peaceful Mount Tur (Sinai) and We sent you manna and quails. 80 "Partake of the good things which We have provided for you as sustenance, but do not transgress therein the bounds of equity lest My condemnation fall upon you: for, he upon whom My condemnation falls has indeed thrown himself into utter ruin!" 81 "But, without doubt, I am (also) He that forgives again and again, to those who repent, believe, and do right, who,- in fine, are ready to receive true guidance." 82 ۞ "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?" 83 'They are upon my tracks,' Moses said. 'I have hastened, Lord, only that I may please Thee.' 84 [Allah] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray." 85 So Musa returned to his people wrathful, sorrowing. Said he: O my people! did not your Lord promise you a goodly promise: did then the time seem long to you, or did you wish that displeasure from your Lord should be due to you, so that you broke (your) promise to me? 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested." 87 then he forged a calf for them -- an image producing a lowing sound. They said, "This is your deity, the deity of Moses; he has forgotten it." 88 Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
