He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
