The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The people of Noah, who lived before them, had also rejected (Our guidance). They rejected Our servant and said, "He is an insane person so let us drive him away". 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
