The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 purify your garments; 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
