The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
