Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
