Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
