The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
