The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
