The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
