The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
