Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
