The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
