Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
