'Aad denied the messengers 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
