The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
