۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
