The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
