Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his nation, saying: 'Give warning to your nation before a painful punishment overtakes them' 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 "That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me: 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: "O my Lord! Verily, I have called my people night and day (i.e. secretly and openly to accept the doctrine of Islamic Monotheism). 5 But the more I called, they only ran the farther away. 6 Evert time I invite them to Your (guidance) so that You can forgive them, they put their fingers into their ears, cover their heads with their clothes, persist in their disbelief and display extreme arrogance. 7 Then surely I called to them aloud: 8 and preached to them in public, and also addressed them in secret. 9 and I said: "'Ask your Sustainer to forgive you your sins - for, verily, He is all-forgiving! 10 He will let loose the sky upon you in abundance 11 rain from the sky, 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 seeing He created you by stages? 14 Do you not see how Allah has created seven heavens, one upon the other, 15 And has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 ‘And it is Allah Who made you grow like vegetation from the earth.’ 17 and [then] He will bring you forth [from It] in resurrection. 18 And Allah hath made the earth unto you an expanse. 19 "'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'" 20
