The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
