He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
